54mm Old Guard miniature
Painted with Acrylics and enamels 1968.

This was one of the first Classical era figures I ever painted.  The Old Guard company released a number of ancient figures in the late 60's.  I liked this one because of the pose and the Corinthian helmet. Unfortunately on my allowance and gardening moneys I couldn't afford too many of these colllectors figures back then.

I painted this model as a tribute to the Spartans at Thermopylae in 479 BC.  This fellow looks like he is on outpost duty, under arms and his cloak blowing back, not a bad figure for back then, but his feet are too small!
